Blair Brooks
The boathouse is named after the kindest and most talented coach who served Hanover High School rowers for many years. Blair was a dedicated and loving novice boys' coach, but he also served as president of FOHC, Captain of the FOHC Prouty team, and as one of the program's founding fathers. Blair's goal was not to create a winning team, but rather, to create a love of rowing in new generations of young men. He coached his rowers to realize that they are good enough and would celebrate the "win" of his boats simply making it across the finish line without tipping over.

While he was quiet about his own successes, it should be noted that Blair rowed for Harvard, and captained the "Rude and Smooth" on the never-defeated 1975 heavyweight crew team, and was one of the biggest calming forces within the boat. He would have many more rowing successes, and would row whenever and however he could throughout his life whether on his own, in the head of the Charles with fellow coaches, or in the Prouty with his daughter, Ally. It speaks lengths to his coaching ability that he only ever had one ejector crab during his time coaching. Outside of rowing, Blair was head of General Internal Medicine at Dartmouth Health. The FOHC program would not be what it is today without the talents and gifts brought to us by Blair. He spent countless hours fighting for the boathouse to come to fruition, few have had such a positive impact on the program and the lives of its members. He was a humble and gracious servant to the program, a compassionate and caring mentor and friend, and we are proud to name the boathouse in his memory.
